When incorporating lighting into any type of POP or custom milled (millwork) furniture display,  the lighting and electrical systems must be reviewed for compliance with Underwriters Laboratories (UL) standards and National Electrical Code (NEC)requirements. This needs to be done both from the perspective of the individual luminaires and components, and even more importantly, from the perspective of the totally complete and integrated lighting, electrical distribution, and millwork system. This should be done whether or not the final, fully integrated, display product will actually be submitted to UL for listing.

In the United States the National Electric Code (NEC), which also Incorporates various Underwriters Laboratories (UL) standards, applies not only to individual luminaires, but also to electrical accessories and electrical distribution systems typically integrated into the display and millwork.

"The National Electrical Code (NEC) does not permit cords to be concealed where damage to insulation may go unnoticed. To prevent fire danger, do not run cord behind walls, ceilings, soffits, or cabinets where it may be inaccessible for examination. Cords should be visually examined periodically and immediately replaced when any damage is noted." (excerpt from UL standard)

The National Electrical Code (NEC) does not permit flexible cords to be concealed where damage to insulation may go unnoticed. This relates to the use of flexible cords for daisy chaining and thru-wiring between shelves, partitions, cabinet walls and sections, and other millwork surfaces

This is true whether the source is LED or Fluorescent.

To prevent fire danger, it is not permitted to run flexible cords through, between, or behind walls, ceilings, coves, valences, soffits, shelving, partitions, or cabinet walls. The flexible cord needs to be visible over its entire length and readily accessible for periodic examination.

Hard wiring by an electrician, whether installed in the factory or on-site in the field, is both very time consuming and very expensive.

Let Crownlite show you how to produce great displays with the best lighting and electrical systems that help you sell more of your Brands products at retail, make it to UL standards and NEC Code requirements, and at reduced total project cost.

Crownlite manufactures Lighting fixtures and Plug-N-Play wiring systems that are built to UL65 and NEC requirements. We help you produce a better display product with a better ROI for your brand and a better profit for you.
