Our customer needed a header valence lighting system for a gondola display

Application - Our customer needed a header valence lighting system for a gondola display they were designing for one of the leading ‘big box’ retailers.

Design Challenge - An electrical distribution system was needed as the gondola valences were to be installed in long continuous rows. The display needed to put light down on the product and out through a front header graphic. The retailer required all P.O.P. display lighting to strictly meet national electrical codes (NEC®) and Underwriter’s (UL®) standards.

Crownlite’s Process - Crownlite collaborated with the display house’s design and engineering staff to develop a unique header valence lighting concept. We suggested using a system of two separate one-light fixtures, each positioned for maximum effect to accommodate the shape of the header. We selected the highest quality components to extend the useful life of the system and wrote the final specifications. A sample of the header and lighting system was then mocked up to ensure everything fit perfectly and performed as expected. This sample was used by our customer to present for final evaluation and approval by the retailer.

Solution / Result - Crownlite designed and built a retail P.O.P. display lighting system combining headers and fixtures that could be quickly installed with no in-store assembly required. The system consisted of two separate one lamp fixtures pre-wired in a “master/slave” configuration, using two different housing styles to accommodate the shape of the header. We connected the two housings together using pre-wired armored cable. Headers were daisy chained for continuous running. The entire system was code compliant and could be installed by the normal installation contractors, eliminating the added expense of an electrical contractor. Overall installation time was cut by 50%. Over a 14 year period, over 100,000 of these retail P.O.P. display lighting systems have been installed.
