Basic Safety Instructions for All Lighting Related Electrical Work

Read these instructions completely and carefully before installing.

1. CAUTION: Risk of fire or electrical shock. Disconnect all power before installing or maintaining unit. This fixture should only be installed by a qualified (Licensed) professional and in accordance with all applicable National and local codes and regulations.

2. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS. Read these instructions completely and carefully before installing. Make sure you have all the pages of this set of instructions. Call factory immediately, at above number, if you have any questions regarding the installation of this product.

3. Consult factory for information regarding the applicability of this product in any installation; especially one that will expose it to: moisture, heat, corrosive or any other specific environment, or exposure to specific chemicals. Make sure fixture is Underwriters (U.L.) classified for the specific application and installation area.

4. Use a sturdy wooden ladder and wear rubber soled shoes during installation. Wear work gloves when handling housings: metal corners and edges can cause cuts and abrasions.

5. Unpack and inspect all fixtures. Do not pull on wires or handle the fixture by the wiring. This may cause loose or shorted wires. Carefully stretch out wires to remove any excessive strain. Hold fixture only by the metal housing. Be careful not to bend, bow, or otherwise distort the metal housing during handling.

6. Verify correct mechanical and electrical fit and function, including but not limited to: being sure you have all the parts before starting installation (a complete bill of material is available by calling the factory), that the ballast matches the supply voltage and frequency, that the lamp type is correct, that there are no loose or cut wires (especially under metal parts), and that all products are in accordance with purchase order, specifications, and codes. Notify factory at once if there are any discrepancies.

7. CAUTION: All electrical ‘J’ Boxes must remain accessible, and ‘J’unction box cover plates must be removable, in order to allow inspection at any time. Do not cover or bury ‘J’ box cover plate in any way. A maximum of 8 #12 AWG branch circuit conductors suitable for min 90deg C permitted in ‘J’ box (4 in / 4 out).

8. Before connecting fixture, Verify that the “Black” wire (120v) or “Orange” wire (277v) is in fact “hot”, the “White” wire is in fact “neutral”, and that the “Green” is in fact “grounded”.

Using a good RMS type volt meter, verify that the voltage is within recommended limits at the fixture (115-125 volts on a 120 volt system, 264-290 volts on a 277 volt system).

If cord connected: use an “OSHA” type LED three pronged outlet tester at each outlet at each “J” box to verify correct wiring and verify minimum voltage at each outlet at each “J” box.

Due not exceed 80% of maximum allowable loading on any circuit. Operation with wrong voltage, reversed polarization, or poor grounding, may result in improper operation or complete failure of this product and will void all warrantees.

Consult a qualified electrician.

9. Do not install fixture in such a manner to entrap heat. Do not install fixture against low density materials or materials that tend to trap heat within the fixture. A blinking light may indicate Overheating. Do not cover fixture with insulation. Keep insulation at least 4” from fixture housing.

10. For supply connection use only wire rated for minimum 90 deg C. Connect black (hot) supply wire to black fixture wire and connect white (neutral) supply wire to white fixture wire.

11. Fixture must be properly grounded. Connect electrical system ground wire (green or bare copper) directly to fixture metal housing using green ground screw provided. If ground screw is not available, use machine screw, lock washer, and nut. If your electrical system does not contain a ground wire, consult a qualified electrician.

12. Use only UL listed wire nuts with metal spring inserts for all splices. For proper connection place wirenut over wire and twist clockwise until tight. CAUTION: make certain no bare wires are exposed outside wirenuts. Use only insulated staples or plastic ties to secure wires and cords. Route and secure wires and cords so they will not be pinched or damaged.

13. If fixture is switched from a wall, make sure the black (hot) supply wire is connected to the switch. Do not connect the white (neutral) supply wire to the switch.

14. Make sure all fixtures and fixture parts are mounted securely in place. Make sure there are no pinched or shorted wires. All wires must be properly routed and placed under the socket bars and inside the ballast cover/wire way. Lamp replacement markings should be visible during relamping.

15. Install lamps completely into sockets and test the fixture.

16. Notify the company who you purchased the product from, or the factory, at once if you encounter any problem, or have any question regarding this product, it’s installation, operation, or maintenance.
